Darren Reid

Darren Reid is a fishing writer, photographer and editor based in Melbourne, Victoria. He has fished extensively in Victoria lure fishing for bream and flathead in the far east Gippsland estuaries, chasing snapper in Port Phillip Bay and offshore, whilst also developing a strong interest in lure fishing for trout, golden perch and Murray cod in recent times.

Darren has also fished in every State and Territory in Australia, Vanuatu, Malaysia and Thailand.

Darren's first full time foray into the fishing media was in early 1998 as editor of Rex Hunt Fishing Adventures magazine, a 'job' that required him to travel to a different destination each month to fish, write and photograph a feature.

One of the more pleasing aspects of this 'job' was the development of and at times introduction to the complete gamut of fishing experiences.

This included game fishing for marlin off the south coast of NSW, casting lures at barramundi and threadfin salmon in snag infested mangrove creeks in the Northern Territory, beach fishing for monster Australian salmon off Esperance in WA, trolling lures for barra, GT's and jacks in the 'Jurassic Park' like Hinchinbrook Channel, Queensland and fly fishing some of Tasmania's wilderness rivers.

Later roles in the fishing media have included a stint as editor of fishing website, Fishnet and Event and media co-ordinator for the Futurefish Foundation's Victorian Fishing Week 2002. Currently, Darren provides regular contributions to Victorian Fishing News magazine, national fishing magazines and has written his first book entitled Fishing the Gippsland Lakes and Wilderness Coast.
