OCEA BLUE ROSE JIG RODS
Don't let that innocent sounding name fool you — to a fish these roses have some serious thorns!
To breed a blue rose is said to be achieving the impossible, but it has now been done, and building a rod that is super light but incredibly strong and capable of all-day jigging sessions has now also been accomplished, so the name Blue Rose is an apt one. These radical Japanese jigging rods are extra tough and capable of bowling giant jig eaters over in record time — whether they be yellowtail kings, samson fish, amberjack, cobia, giant trevally or dogtooth tuna.
Given the trend these days towards using threadline reels like the superlative Shimano Stellas when jigging, there are two threadline rods to choose from, and an overhead for traditionalists.
The S537R and S53SD are 1.6 metres in length, of single piece construction and are capable of fishing PE 6 and PE 8 braid (approximately 60 and 80 pound test) to the hilt.
The B5315S overhead is of a similar length and can handle PE 8 braid. The blanks have a high carbon fibre content (the S53SD is 100 per cent carbon fibre), the double overbound guides are heavy duty Fuji Super Ocean style, plus the rods have comfortable Crossgear fighting foregrips, reinforced Fuji reel seats and aluminium gimbals with removable butt caps.
Blue Rose rods also have incredible lifting power, and during the development phase Shimano rod technicians had them lifting up to 20 kilos dead weight without any sign of damage, so a big fish that is actively moving about will be no problem for these powerful sticks.
