CORVALUS BAITCASTERS

Shimano's new Corvalus baitcasters are packed with lots of great features, and their great price structure won't blow the budget either.

The three reels in this all-new lineup - the CVL 200, 300 and 400 - are suited to everything from jigging Squidgies for impoundment bass, to fishing floating pillies for snapper. Each features a die-cast aluminium frame, aluminium sideplates, aluminium spool, three A-RB bearings and one stainless steel roller bearing, a non-disengaging levelwind system, Super Stopper and Assist Stopper, and a quick take-down system for easy servicing.

Line capacities are more than useful, with the 200 holding 210 metres of five kilo, the 300 240 metres of six kilo, and the big 400 250 metres of seven kilo. The gear ratio on the three reels is 5.2:1, which is plenty fast enough for nearly all fishing applications, and the adjustable Variable Braking System makes use of centrifugal force to control casts and prevent backlashes.

At under $180 retail for the CVL 400 and even less for the smaller models, the Corvalus range represent excellent value for money.
