Audio for the great outdoors
For a conventional entertainment unit, prolonged exposure to a rugged outdoor environment is a death sentence – dust, UV rays, water particles, bumps and vibrations inevitably prove too much for the unit to withstand.
With the adventurer in mind, outdoor electronics specialist Jensen Marine has introduced a new audio product to Australia, the MSR7007. Unlike anything that has previously been available for off-the-beaten-track travellers, the MSR7007 features an AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo unit with serious protection (IPX5) from dust and water particles. Perfect for RV travellers, the unit is a sleek, stylish product that can be easily installed while taking up a minimum of space.
Not all ‘outdoor electronics' products are created equal. Even products claiming their outdoor credentials can simply be an existing product with extra waterproofing. They may keep out the rain, but put them on a dusty, bumpy unsealed road for a while and it's a different story. Jensen Marine, however, has designed its range of entertainment products from the ground up, to exist in perfect harmony with the great outdoors. It's not just the casing that matters – Jensen Marine products have been ‘outdoor-proofed' during every step of the design process.
For example, most outdoor audio units corrode from the inside out, destroyed by the dust and ambient moisture content in the air that enters the chassis or DINS through ‘cooling holes'. Jensen Marine's sealed chassis prevents this completely, as the heat is extracted via a heat sink and the need for cooling holes is eliminated. In addition to being completely protected from the elements, the internal components have heavy-duty wiring and tough construction, to withstand the constant movement and vibration that occurs when driving down a bumpy road or cross-country.
To avoid cluttering up your RV with CDs, the MSR7007 is MP3/WMA and iPod compatible. Once an iPod is connected via the rear built-in pigtail, full control of its functions is transferred to the MSR7007 buttons, and the iPod can be safely stored out of harm's way. The iPod's visual information appears on the MSR7007's own large multi-line LCD display, enabling visibility from a wide range of vantage points. For added convenience, an auxiliary connection via the front of the unit can also be purchased separately.
The MSR7007 is suitable for Radio Broadcast Data System usage, can receive the NOAA Weatherband, and is even ready for SIRIUS satellite radio (although SIRIUS is currently not available to Australian audiences). It provides warm, clear sound with 200W of output power and is wired remote-ready for MWR75 and MWR100 controls.
Installation is easy with the MSR7007's single-DIN chassis, and the rear aux-in, pre-amp output enables the attachment of external speakers for bigger sound. For unexpected occurrences, the unit is equipped with 40-second electronic CD skip protection, zero-current memory draw and low battery (voltage) warning. The MSR7007 is the ideal all-round audio system for people with places to be, in a superbly functional and elegant package.
