SQUIDGY BUGS
Bass and bream spend a lot of their time lying deep in the snags
looking upwards and watching for terrestrial animals that have fallen
in the water, or prawns that might be quietly trying to get from Point
A to Point B without being eaten. The new Squidgy Bug is designed to emulate
these critters and has added a whole new dimension to Squidgy fishing
in Australia.
When rigged on a single wide-gape worm hook, Squidgy Bugs are heavy enough
to be cast on ultra-light finesse gear and are brilliant for surface presentations
deep into those riverbank snags, across the top of oyster racks, and other
shallow water situations.
Their fat buggy shape adds to their buoyancy and their tails
flutter upwards at slow speeds. They are slightly larger than the tails
found on Squidgy Wrigglers, so they create a remarkable amount of surface
disturbance. Hold the rod tip high and paddle the Squidgy Bug across the
surface and youll soon agree that its a sight no bass or bream
can refuse. The surface takes are quite spectacular!
Squidgy Bugs measure 70 millimetres in length, have a pair of suitably
bug-like eyes and are available in five prawn-like colours Casper, Bloodworm,
Jelly Prawn, Avocado and Frostbite.
For traditionalists, Squidgy Bugs can also be fished sub-surface, perhaps
rigged on one of the new Finesse jig heads. Hopped or crawled across the
bottom, few fish will pass them up.
