SYMETRE FI THREADLINES

Shimano's recently released Symetre FI series of small to medium threadlines are arguably the slickest on the market.

The presence of no less than five A-RB bearings means they're silky smooth to wind, while Super Stopper 11 removes any slop in the handle and Fluidrive contributes to a smooth, powerful retrieve.

An easily accessed maintenance port gives access to the drive train, so a drop of light oil can be inserted to prevent corrosion and maintain the quality of the retrieve.

A lightweight rotor system and a Power Roller bail arm roller makes casting a breeze, and line twist is all but eliminated.

The 1500 FI holds 170 metres of two kilo nylon, making it perfect for finesse fishing with mono or gel spun line, while the 2500 FI is slightly larger and has a capacity of 200 metres of three kilo.

The 4000 FI is probably the most versatile of the three, taking 240 metres of four kilo and covering light offshore activities as well.

A spare cold forged aluminium spool means a heavier or lighter line class can always be kept in reserve if need be.

The two smaller reels have a super fast 6.0:1 retrieve speed, and the 4000 FI a healthy 5.7:1.
