CHRONARCH CH50MG BAITCASTER
The Chronarch CH50MG baitcaster might not look radically different
from other baitcasters in Shimano’s extensive lineup of small
overheads, but this is a baitcaster with a difference.
You see, the frame and both sideplates on the CH50MG are actually
made from magnesium.
The use of magnesium cuts down on weight without sacrificing strength.
Even the handle shank is drilled out to make the CH50MG one of
the lightest, strongest baitcasters on the market, and suitable
for both fresh and salt water use.
The Super Free bearing supported pinion gear eliminates friction
between it and the spool shaft, and when combined with a Lo-Mass
drilled spool system to reduce start up inertia, it’s easy
to see why the CH50MG is such a superb casting reel as well.
Incidentally, the spool is made from A7075 Aluminium, which is
lighter yet stronger than conventional aluminium alloys.
Holding 125 metres of five kilo mono, the CH50MG has a retrieve
ratio of 6.2:1, a Variable Brake System (VBS) and Shimano’s
Turn-Key side plate access to make adjusting the brake weights a
breeze.
And as you’d expect from a reel of this calibre, there’s
four A-RB Bearings and one roller bearing to keep all the internals
purring along nicely.
