LOWRANCE MIGHTY MINI
Hidden away in the huge Lowrance 2004 product release is one of the best
value combos around - the M-52i.
This model combines sonar and GPS/plotter functions in a case that can
be mounted in the smallest dash space, or side mounted on a console or
rail using a simple RAM mount fitting.
Compact dimensions usually go hand in hand with modest performance and
basic screen displays. Not so the mighty mini M-51i. The high contrast
Film Super Twist LCD display packs in 240 x 160 pixels and four levels
of grey scale for superb sonar target definition, and outstanding clarity
on plotter displays crammed with icons and waypoints. The white LED screen
is also backlit for the best possible display in low light or night viewing.
With 800 watts of peak to peak power (100 watts RMS), depth penetration
to 90 metres is available - more than enough for inshore and enclosed
waters.
On the GPS side of things the M-52i includes a built-in antenna and 12
parallel channel receiver, delivering stunning accuracy. The set may be
small but the memory is huge with capacity for 1,000 waypoints and 10
savable trails of up to 10,000 points each.
For the best possible target information and separation this model comes
with a 20 degree Skimmer transducer with built-in surface temperature
sensor. If you have not had a surface temp function before you might be
amazed at the difference this can make to fishing results.
Best new of all is that this power-packed Lowrance compact sells for
under $600 - something of a steal when you consider what $600 would buy
in the way of marine electronics just a few years ago.
