21/04/09: – News had just come though and now confirmed that TabCorp, owners of radio station 2KY, have axed the weekend fishing show Hi-Tide heard on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The cancelation of the show is effective immediately. There will be no HI-Tide this weekend!
Hi-Tide has been on air for the last 19 years and hosted by Bruce Schumacher and Kieren Reekie. In recent years special regular presenters such as Alan Blake of Blakes Marine and Gabe from Gabes Tackle have offered great advice and assistance to the boating and fishing fraternity.
Bruce Schumacher and Kieren Reekie has asked that via Sportsfish they apology to all the shows loyal listeners and advertisers and thanks them for their support over the last 19 years.
Kieren said “It has been extremely disappointing that TabCorp would not even allow us the opportunity to produce a final show to say farewell and thanks for all your support”.
Bruce Schumacher also said "The program has enabled me to make good and long lasting friendships and I thank them for their loyal input and support." |

As one that has been involved with "High Tide" from time to time over many years - I am most disappointed with the attitude of Tab Corp. And that's putting it mildly.
In this day of "Grubbing" the mighty dollar - I am not surprised though. The attitude and decision of "gathering" the punters money 24 hours a day is now the Norm.
Keiren and Bruce and your enormous network of fishing reporters, advertisers and listeners, there are and will be more opportunities - and I am sure they will occurr in the not too distant future.

I too echo a number of comments already made, here and during discussions today, I am also a little perplexed and dismayed at the sudden dumping of teh show.
I am sure the reasons behind such a sudden decision will come out, however as noted it leaves many things up in the air, for many people along with no real end.
I hope that Kieran & Bruce now get out do more than what they preached each Saturday for 19 years, and actually go fishing with all those people that supported them during their on air time.
As John notes, the mighty $ certainly is the power these days.

I'm lead to believe that TabCorp have being ringing the Hi-Tide sponsors trying to resell space on other shows.
So far they have not liked the response.
Varies from your got to be kidding aren't you?; to shove it where the sun don't shine! (cleaned up)
I'm advised that the show was not losing money in fact quite healthy so I have to agree with John, is all about gauging the last cent out of race punters!
Remember it was this lot that wanted punting on Good Friday. |

As a participant to the show, I am shocked to have been told today that Hi Tide has been removed from the air waves after all these years! Not a good executive decision. The crew of the show have worked tirelessly week after week to keep the angling community up to date with safety issues, political bungles and benefits to the sport, weather and local area conditions to help prevent potential fatal accidents, tips, techniques and hot spots. further to this they have also helped to promote the benefits of the sport to the community and the businesses great and small that provide the bait, fishing tackle, boating equipment, charter and safety support networks that are the backbone of the industry. I cant believe that this decision was based only on lack of budget... They were even selling cars and insurance on the show!! Tab corp' should re consider their position as there will be many unhappy anglers out there wondering what happened to their important source of information backing a great recreational sport. Very disappointing! |

For a lot of anglers this show was their connection to other fishermen. There are plenty of older anglers that will never go online but would listen every weekend to the Hi tide program to find out what was going on and it gave them a voice and a community to belong to.Like the marine parks issue this is just one more thing we shouldn't take lying down. Let 2ky know you want Hi Tide back on air.
The switch board Number is 1300 884-094 or you can Email their feedback
http://www.2ky.com.au/feedback/index.php
Ask why HiTide has been axed. Tell him you want it back on.

That sucks !
I dont know the reasons behind the sudden death of this program, but I know it was listened to faithfully by quite a few of my fisho mates. I hope some other station picks up the program. I wonder what else they are gonna run pre dawn on a weekend? |

All
Well when I tuned in this morning it was a League style show covering the Bronco's - Eels game last night, whilst listening for about 1/2hr there was no mention of Hi-Tide and sponsors were limited. |

| Just discovered this horrible news. Woke up yesterday to listen to the show & thought maybe it wasn't on due to the dawn service. Did the same again this morning. Not happy! |

While I respect tabcorp’s right to run their business as they see fit , there are right and wrong ways to go about these types of decisions. They chose the wrong way.
Tabcorp should be ashamed of themselves. While I’m aware that Hi' Tide was a commercial venture it nevertheless provided an invaluable community service to fishermen and boaters of Australia. Tabcorps decision to axe it demonstrates their total lack of social conscience.
Kieran Reekie dedicated 20 years of his life to the show and the station . In real terms that represents half a mans working life . To axe the show without even giving the boys the opportunity to ‘sign off’ with a closing show is a disgrace . A very unaustralian act on what is ironically one of our most ‘Australian’ days – ANZAC day.

I was never a fan of the show myself, but I certainly don't agree with the lack of respect Tabcorp has displayed to such a long running show.
Very poor, this won't make them look good in the public eye. |

now what are we going to listen to on the way to launch the boats it was one of the best shows to listen to in the freezing early mornings on the way to the ramp it would syc you up when you wanted to turn back on a freezing day a sad momment for fisherman and boaters alike,A well loved show that my uncle introduced me too many many years ago
maybe some one with a broadcasting licence should consider a similar show that ran maybe all day sat and sunday and public holidays
